Falkland Collectibles in conjunction with the local Branch of the Royal British Legion have commissioned artist Sonia Felton to produce a special commemorative cover, date cancelled on the 11 November 2011. The cover features a military starling singing the dawn chorus with a Falklands settlement and landscape as background. The stamp is from the Queen Elizabeth’s 85th Birthday set with the date hand cancelled by Philatelic Bureau staff. The 90th anniversary Royal British Legion logo completes the picture. The covers are on sale at £3.00, with one pound per cover donated to the Legion, one pound to the artist with one pound to cover production and retailers costs.

The definitive set of stamps issued for the Dependencies in 1980 displayed the diverse nature of the area. Insects found on South Georgia include those illustrated on these stamps : Gamasellus racovitzai, Alaskozetes antarcticus, Cryptopygus antarcticus, Notiomaso australis, Hydromedion sparsutum, Parochlus steinenii. Reindeer were introduced into South Georgia by the Norwegian whaling companies in the early 20th century. The animals are seen in spring, in autumn, in winter and in late winter. Plants in the island are by necessity small and low growing. They include ; Magellanic Clubmoss, Alpine Cat's-tail, Greater Burnet, Antarctic Bedstraw, Brown Rush and Antarctic Hair Grass.

The Wrecks and Hulks of South Georgia are shown on a map of the Islands with the stamps featuring the more well known vessels and their location : Brutus, Prince Olav Harbour; Bayard, Ocean Harbour; Karrakatta, Husvik; and Louise Grytiviken. The South Georgia Whaling Museum at Grytiviken 54 17' South 36 30' West complete with trypot forms the design of the first day cover. Stamps are photographs of the Disused Factory at Grytviken, Whaler's Lighter and Bones, King Edward Cove, and the Museum building. The 2010 issue of Wrecks and Hulks features the Bayard, Dias and Albatros, Karrakatta and Petrel.

A two pound stamp was issued in September 1982 to assist with rebuilding the island. A surcharge of one pound from sales went into this fund. The stamp featured a map of South Georgia. The centenary of the issuing of Letters Patent illustrates the founding of the settlement by the British Government in South Georgia. The stamps depict HMS Sappho, Magistrates Residence, James Innes Wilson, Magistrate 1909 - 1914 and SS Coronda. The cover design is the official crest of South Georgia. Mapping of South Georgia stamps were issued as two se-tenant pairs depicting a portion of the Neumeyer Glacier and a satellite image of the same area two years later. The Kern DHNI theodolite was used at the time of the original map in 1958 and the Landsat 7 satellite used today.
