Stanley Airport opened by Sir Vivian Fuchs on the 1st May 1979.

The airport was officially opened on the 12 May 1985 by HRH The Prince Andrew.

The cover image design by local artist Sonia Felton features the Red-Backed Hawk.

This bird of prey is often seen near the airport protecting it’s domain and in flight over the Islands.

The tri service nature of the British Forces stationed at Mount Pleasant is captured in the landscape.

The two stamps combine the inaugural flight by a Boeing 747 and the weekly Airbus A320 operated by Lan Chile.

The stamps show the MV Merchant Providence and the pioneer camp at East Cove; the Tristar hangar under construction; the layout of the runway and the arrival of the first wide bodied long range jet aircraft.
